One of the original books that changed the way mainstream business understood what made ideas successful.
The Tipping Point was the start of a whole series of economists and strategists that brought the idea of the hidden rules, patterns and quirks of human behaviour that helped us to understand ho some ideas were successful where others aren't.
It’s worth remembering that almost everything has been a mystery at some point in time. Add to that, a lot of those things have a big impact on how we live our lives. Things like weather, anaemia, botany where all attributed to supernatural causes. Business is no different.
For a long time what ideas work, what persuades people, how people connect and why people choose one product over another were considered a mystery. I’m sure for a very long time success was considered to be mostly luck and little bit of hard work.
In The Tipping Point, Malcom Gladwell reveals many of the common aspects of what makes an idea successful.
Whilst the book doesn’t give you a formula for success it does help you to shed the idea that success is simple. It especially debunks the myth that good products do well and crap products do badly. This, Good to Great and Influence and my top three recommendations.
